Peterson Family Christmas Party!

This weekend we went down to my parents house for the Peterson Family Christmas Party! :)

I love the Christmas party.. it's one of the things that I always look forward to when it comes to the holiday season!

It is a little sad now that we're older... and the gift exchange is a little less fun when there aren't 15 kids under the age of 12 going crazy over the awesomeness that is their new remote control car or Barbie.

Although I'd be lying if I said that Brenner didn't freak out over his remote control car.  Oh yeah, that thing was  a hit.

We decided to go down to Monroe for the Christmas Party the night before... much to my Mother's surprise! ha! Sorry mom for just showing up like that...

We had a lot of fun just hanging out and Emerson got to play with a couple of Brenner's old toys.

She LOVED them!!

It's awesome that she can now play with toys... and that she enjoys them!  I love seeing her grow.  I wish it would happen slower though.  Why do they get big so fast?!

(Except I do often wish for the day that she learns to sleep through the night always.... that will be the greatest day there ever was.)

She seriously loved this cube thing.  It entertained her forever!!

(yeah... I know we look as pale as a Stephenie Meyer vampire.... I'm blaming it on the lighting, not the fact that I'm in desperate need of a tan)

At the Christmas party Emerson had the chance to open her very first Christmas present!  I can't really say that she liked opening the gift, but I can definitely say that she wasn't terrified of all the noise and when the wrapping paper was ripped.  So I think of that as a success.  (Sometimes she gets really scared of really really random things...)

She got a super cute little dolly from her cousin Kaden! :)  She already loves sucking on the dolls hands.  So it was definitely a successful present!

The next day we went to church with my family!  Their church is at 9 a.m. which is normally when Emerson is waking up (Sundays always throw off her schedule... is it just me or does church ALWAYS interfere with at least 2 naps, no matter what time it's at?!!)

So she did REALLY well during Sacrament meeting... did not so well during Sunday School (and spit up ALL over her outfit.. she smelled like vomit.  It was lovely)... and then spent pretty much all of Relief Society in my dad's office, but at least he managed to get her to sleep... something that I had not been able to do for the entire 3 hour block.

When we got home we had to take a few pictures in front of the Christmas tree in our church clothes... even though she wasn't wearing her Christmas dress or anything.. it still just had to happen!

Oh my heck! Don't you just want to kiss them?!  (I'll let you kiss my baby... please don't kiss my husband. K? Thanks!)

And all of us! :)

I sure do love my cute family!

Also, I have to add this picture because Brenner wanted me to pose Emerson like this and then get our picture taken together.  I think that it's hilarious!  They look like they're doing the actions for "I'm a Little Tea Pot".  What a goof!

And then! The coolest thing ever happened!  I told Camden that I was going to sit Emerson up and then hurry and take my arms away and when I did that to hurry and snap a picture of her before she fell over (I did have the intentions of catching her when she did fall over)

And look what happened....

Oh yeah!! She sat up all by herself!!

Of course I started to freak out with excitement (because I get over enthused about things...) so I totally wasn't ready when she did finally fall over... She toppled right on backwards...

Not my finest parenting moment... As Ammon loves to point out.

....Meh!

Now we're definitely in the mood for CHRISTMAS!

Because... after all there's only 6 more sleeps til Chriiiistmaaas.

(The Muppet Christmas Carol is the best Christmas movie.  Ever.  No battle!)

Tongue Tied

A few days after Emerson was born I noticed that her tongue sort of had a bit of a heart shape when she tried to stick it out.  Tried being the key word there.  She could barely get her tongue to her bottom lip...

I mentioned it at her 2 month doctors appointment, but our regular pediatrician was on maternity leave and when I mentioned her tongue to the substitute (replacement?  fill-in?  alternate?) pediatrician she just sort of told me that it didn't look too bad and that she'd probably be fine.. but if when she was older she had trouble talking then they could fix it.

That was not the answer that I wanted.. The last thing that I want is to have my 8 year old made fun of at school because of her weird speech.  I'm sure she'll have PLENTY of other things to be mocked for growing up.. no need to add extra. haha!!

I brought it back up to her real pediatrician at her 4 month appointment and the ped said that she was honestly surprised she was able to eat with how bad her tongue was tied.

So.... We scheduled an appointment for today

If anyone tells you that that fixing a tied tongue is no big deal and a super easy procedure they are lying to you.

Lying so so bad.

We scheduled an appointment today for 11.  Finally went back into the procedure room at about 11:50.. and didn't see the doctor until 12:30...

A very long long time for a baby who is ready for a nap and on the verge of getting hungry again... Also very very long time for a Mama who is already emotional just thinking about the whole thing.

Ammon tried to stay with us for as long as possible.. but he finally had to leave so that he could get to work.  So I got to experience the whole thing by myself.

And it was awful.

They had to strap her down to the table... complete with arm restraints...

That immediately started the crying

From both of us!

The doc then shot a MASSIVE needle into that thing under her tongue (you know, the one that connects the tongue to the bottom of your mouth).  And he used these two scissor looking clamp-like things to keep her tongue up at the top of her mouth.

This made both of us cry harder.

(Yes... I am a boob sometimes)

Finally, he made a couple of cuts in her tongue, then released her from her restraints and let me take her.

He then gave me a hug. haha!

Traumatic.... (the tongue thing, not the hug)

After Emerson calmed down a bit, I got out of there as fast as I could.  Mostly so I could call Ammon and bawl like a baby to him while I drove home.

doc office
Here we are waiting in the procedure room... we're smiling because we have no idea what's about to happen.

I do have to admit though.. that since coming home I have noticed that Emerson is already having an easier time eating than she ever has.

I suppose that means the whole thing was worth it....

Traumatic.. but worth it.

Thankful!

I would say that this year we definitely have A LOT to be thankful for!

Definitely the thing that I am most thankful for (and I think it's a pretty safe bet that Ammon would agree with me) is our sweet little lady.

This time last year when I was sick, sick, sick (especially whenever bread was near me) I couldn't even imagine how much love I would feel for the girly.

Even though she was a big surprise, I am so thankful that she's here!  I was never sure if I'd be very good at the whole 'mom thing'... but so far, so good! :)

......................

This year for Thanksgiving we went down to my parents house.  It was supposed to be the year with Ammon's family, but they went to Chicago to visit Ammon's sister (Sad for us... but happy for them!)

We had a fun long weekend down there and mostly just hung out and ate food.

Lots and lots and lots of food.

I don't know about you, but that's exactly how I like my holidays. haha

P1010806
Emerson enjoyed Thanksgiving as well!  She got to experience a high chair for the first time.  I think she mostly just liked it because Brenner was sitting right by her and entertaining her the entire time.  (Also note the cheetah Beanie Baby... Brenner wanted her to have it by her at all times).

P1010804
She was a little small for it still, but it did the job and allowed me to eat Thanksgiving using both hands. (Oh the joys of being able to cut my own food.. using a knife even).  Not a luxury I have very often anymore...

P1010807
We also went outside and watched Brenner chase around Camden, Kyler, and Ammon.  (He was the cheetah and they were his prey.  They're very good sports, obviously)

We didn't stay out for very long though... because the sunshine was very deceiving and it was actually sort of cold.

Bummer!

And then Emerson got to experience the awesomeness that is the Xbox (Uncle Camden was so proud!)
P1010812

Notice the look concentration on her face...

She was actually really quite entertained by the tv.

P1010815

She was also mauled constantly loved completely by Brenner.  He is most definitely Emerson's biggest fan.  He ALWAYS wants to know what she's doing.. and loves giving play-by-plays of her actions.

Example: Emerson is laying on the floor playing on the activity mat and this is the conversation that Brenner has with whoever is near them.

Brenner:  "Emerson just looked at me!"
    Other person: "Cool!"
Brenner: "Emerson has her eyes closed... oh she's blinked"
     Other person:"Awesome."
     Brenner:"Emerson just touched her doll"
     Other person:"Uh-huh"
     Brenner:"Emerson looked at me again!"

And so on and so forth! haha!  I'm glad that she's so well liked by him.  He's definitely the best uncle.  Ever!  She is lucky to have him.

Brenner was sooooooo excited to get to hold Emerson.  He kept asking and asking until finally the perfect holding Emerson situation happened (meaning she wasn't sleeping, hungry, grumpy, etc.) then 15 seconds into holding her he got so excited to tell my mom that he was holding her that he gave her back to me and took off to find my mom.

Oh well, at least I got a picture of it first!

It was a lovely Thanksgiving and we have much to be grateful for this year! :)

Purple Girly!

Emerson wore this cute outfit to church yesterday, and I just think it's so darling!

So basically, this post is just a picture dump of Emerson... because she is so cute!

yay!

P1010608
And she's on the cute blanket that my friend Megan made for her!! Thanks Megan! :)

P1010606

P1010598

P1010590
A sort of blurry smile one... but it's just to prove that she can smile (except for when there's a camera around!)

P1010617
And some tummy time! Which she still hates quite a lot....

Cornbelly's!!

This past weekend Emerson and I got to tag along with my family to Cornbelly's! :)

It's such a cute place (although probably a little more appropriate for the 3-7 year old crowd, rather than for 16 year olds.  Sorry Cam! haha)

We did the big corn maze, and my dad was the lucky one who got to carry her through the whole thing.  Luckily we had Camden and Brenner there with their awesome sense of direction so it didn't take us TOO long to get out.  haha!

We also watched Bren do all of the other awesome things there!

We had a lot of fun, and Emerson got to show off her cute little Halloween outfit that her Grandma made for her!  She sure is lucky to have a grandma who spoils her so much.  :)

P1010566
Yes... I do think that's a look of fear on her face. Probably because of the massive thing on her head!  haha!!

P1010586
And here she is totally distracted by the fun pattern on her skirt... I'm pretty sure she was in the process of trying to figure out how to get the skirt into her mouth.  That's her new favorite thing.

Three Months Old!!

Seriously, how did this happen?!!?
P1010541
She's so big already....

It honestly feels like only yesterday that we found out that I was pregnant... and now we have the sweetest little baby.

She has seriously been SUCH A FUN BABY!!

Although the last few days.... she's really been not having the greatest time sleeping.  Which makes my brain feel like pudding... Like last night, when she didn't want to go to sleep until 2 in the morning!

ugh!

It's ok though, I just kept telling myself that this wouldn't last forever and that I should appreciate the late nights with my little lady.  It also helps that she's pretty easy on the eyes.  That makes looking at her through sleep-deprived eyes at least sorta better.

P1010554

Emerson just recently found her hands... and boy, does she loooove them.  I'm pretty sure that if she could name her best friends, she would say her hands.

Well, either her hands or the light above her swing.  She REALLY REALLY likes the light above her swing...

Little Miss E seriously is one of the happiest babies ever!  (Well, ok, I don't have a TON of experience with babies... but I do know that she's pretty dang happy.. and that it really takes a lot for her to actually cry.  Like when she's being swaddled for bed....).

P1010517

She also loves standing, and that's usually all she needs to be happy all day long... well, that and eating.  We musn't forget that.  Her favorite thing... ha!

Emerson loves sitting in her Bumbo chair and in her little bouncy chair.  I think it's because it means that she can look around more, and there are just so many awesome things to look at around our apartment, so I can't say that I blame her. :)

P1010536

Welp, I seriously can't think of anything else to say right now... my mind is in a fog.  (I'm having flashbacks of those first few weeks of E's life.)

Oh, I can hear the Lady waking up from her nap.  Guess I better end this now.

I can't think of a clever way to end this post... uh... so here's another picture of E.

P1010514

You're welcome!

(Did this post even make sense...?  My brain feels broken.)

Our Life Lately

So... it's been a while.

I know, I know... I fail at this whole blogging thing! But! I will try really really really hard to be better.

I'm serious this time.

In case anyone still reads this blog I'll just do a quick update on what's been going on in the Cunningham household the past few months.  So here is the Readers Digest version (as I randomly think about it... so good luck following along):

- Emerson gets cuter every day! I'm serious!  We also fall more and more in love with her every day.  Which, I know is what EVERYONE says and it's so cliche, but it's hard not to fall in love with this cute girly.  She's awesome.

- E has been sleeping through the night since like 6-ish weeks!  She now goes to bed at about 11 (I know, it's so late... but no matter what we do or try she won't go to bed til 11) and then she doesn't wake up until 10 or 11 in the morning, although she normally will eat at about 6 am and then fall right back to sleep.  I've pretty much decided that she takes after her dad's hatred of early mornings.  He's also more of a night owl.  The 2 of them are capable of staying up waaaay later than me.  I like to be in bed by 10, or earlier.

-  We blessed Emerson on September 4th!  Ammon did a BEAUTIFUL job.  It was a wonderful day with lots of our family and friends.  Emerson didn't cry during her blessing or poop on her dress.  Those were the only two things I wanted for that day.  And she managed to pull through for me.  That's my girl.  (Hopefully I'll do a post later just about her Blessing Day because that is worthy of it's own post.)

-  Ammon got a new job! Woohoo!  It definitely makes him hate life less, which in turn makes me hate life less. ;)  So we are now a non life-hating family over here.

-  Ammon and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary on October 9th!  I seriously can't believe it's been 2 years already... although sometimes I can't believe it's only been 2 years, it feels like we've been married FOREVER (in a good way of course).  We even left Emerson with a sitter for the very first time (Thanks Sarah!) and she was a champ!  She didn't even cry.. or probably miss us.  Although we missed her very very much.  I had to laugh at the fact that our first time away from her in almost 3 months and we spent a good chunk of it talking about how awesome Em is.  Oh, parenthood....

-  Emerson has had a blocked tear duct in her left eye since she was born.  It's sort of gross, and makes her look like she's got some sort of nasty disease oozing out of her face.  It's really quite sad.  Although luckily for her her Grandpa is an Optometrist and has gotten her some drops... even though it sucks putting them in.  I'm sure it hurts me more than her though.

-  Ammon and I got a new calling in church.  We are now the ward librarians.  Oh yeah... apparently they do give that calling to people under the age of 85.  It's a good place to be.  We get to ring the bell at the end of class.  We have so much power... we're trying to keep it from going to our heads.

-  Emerson and I got to spend 5 days down in Monroe babysitting my brothers/her uncles.  (Well, really we were just there for Brenner... and to keep the other two in line of course).  It was a lot of fun and Emerson was exhausted at the end of every day thanks to all of the Brenner love she was getting.  He sure does love his 'Em-uh-son'.

-  Emerson is just starting to laugh!!!! Oh, it's the best thing ever!!  Ammon and I make fools of ourselves constantly trying to get a chuckle out of her... or just a half-grin even.  It's especially great when we do it out in public... and child-less people stare at us in horror.  It's ok though, their time will come.

-  At E's 2 month check-up (which was really at like 2.5 months.. we were a little slow) she weighed 10 lbs 5 oz and was 23 inches long putting her in the 31% and 64% respectively.  She's getting big.  It makes me sad.

So, there's a quick little mini-update on our lives.  I'm sorry there are no pictures, but for some reason I always download our pictures on the other computer... and Ammon has it at work today. :(

Oh well, she's super cute... I guess you'll just have to take my word for it.

Hello Pretty Lady!

Emerson Ruth Cunningham made her grand appearance on July 19, 2011 at 3:46 pm!

We are so very much smitten with her!

(Hopefully I'll come back and edit this post when I'm on the other computer so I can add more pictures.. but for now this'll have to do!)

Her labor really was so great!!  We got to the hospital at like 5 am and she was here by almost 4!  I didn't even feel like any pain at all thanks to the epidural (I love you, epidural).  Although once I got it I seriously just started to laugh uncontrollably... at everything!  Ammon thought I had lost my mind.  It was great!

We spent most of the day just hanging out and playing Trivial Pursuit on our phones!  (I think Ammon won every game).  Then at about 1:30 I had been stuck at a 7 for what seemed like FOREVER and Dr. Harward and the nurses started getting worried about her because of her heartbeat and they kept talking about how if it didn't get better or if she didn't get out soon we'd have to go the c-section route.

Luckily for us about 15 minutes later I was at a 10 and ready to go! :)  I pushed for about 20 minutes or so and out she came! :)

She was absolutely perfect and we just love her so so so much!

brought to you by the iPhone

So, it was brought to my attention that I haven't posted any type of pregnancy/stomach picture lately

... Well if we're honest I haven't really posted about anything lately, but that's beside the point...

I decided that I would snap a picture with my iPhone today (self-portrait iPhone pics are what happens when your husband is always gone, and your camera battery is currently in the charger)

Also, our apartment apparently sort of doesn't have the greatest lighting at 4:15 p.m.

Huh. Go figure! ;)

photo (2)

There ya go!! Feast your eyes upon that belly!  Ohhhh yeah!

I know, I know! You're all jealous and wish you had an awesome gut like me.  I'm sorry.... but it takes 32 weeks of pregnant awesomeness to get a figure like this!

But in all seriousness, I seriously can't believe that we only have 8 weeks left.  8 WEEKS PEOPLE!!! That is nothing.  We just have 2 more Fast Sundays until this girl is here (well, assuming she's not like 2 weeks late... but I've already made my doctor promise me he wouldn't let that happen.  Wonderful man!)

Things have been going great with the pregnancy.  Overall I feel really good.  Well, minus the back pain, the hip pain, and the fact that I feel like I've been living on a horse.  It's good though!  I love feeling her move, and watching the weird alien-like movements coming from my stomach.

......

In news not related to my uterus... we have a stinking cute new little nephew!! Our first one! :) His name is Emmett and he is SO SO cute!  Like, really!  And I'm not just saying that cuz I know his mom reads this blog. (Hi Erin!)  He even came 2 weeks early... What a fantastic little boy he is!  So considerate for his momma! :)  I seriously can't wait to meet him when they come out to visit family in July!  Just one more thing to make me want July to come even faster!!! haha!

Hmm... I wish we had more awesome things to write.  Well, awesome things that don't just involve babies.  Maybe in a few weeks..... :) :)

But, Ammon is leaving me.... again!! For China... again!  He loves that place.  Like LOVES it there.  And, we're hoping that this little trip brings good things.  Cross your fingers!

(Vague much?)

Welp, that's all I have!  Have a good day!

(yes, I know.. I haven't fixed my blog yet.  I'm too lazy.)

Ugh!

I've been messing around with my blog for the past few hours...

And it's starting to make me angry

Sooo.... I'm giving it a break for the moment... and if anyone actually looks at my blog today, please try not to judge me for the layout thing that I've got going on.

I will fix it

(or I'll make Ammon figure it out....)

haha!! Have a good day. :)

Done, Done, and Done!

I maaaaaaaade it!!!

P1010317

I did, I did! I graduated! I even have the empty diploma holder to prove it. ;)

Got my degree in Elementary Education... and I'm sort of sad that I'm not applying for teaching jobs right now. (Yeah, yeah I know... now I get to be a teacher to all of my children.... and I'm excited for that, but I still sort of wish I was getting to have my own class. Assuming I'd get hired! haha)

But, I'm so happy to be done!! It's been a loooooong four years (well, and looking back it sort of went by really fast, but while it was happening I felt like it was going on forever. That's life I suppose).

I'm really excited that I made it through.... and definitely a big big big thanks to my parents and Ammon. They are definitely the ones that got me through this whole long thing. They all took turns listening to me cry, vent, rant, and cry some more as I went through this adventure.

Thank you! :)

It was a great day! I even got to walk/sit with my cousin Kayla! :)

P1010306

She's also pregnant with a little girl! And is due about 11 days before me. We definitely like to compare pregnancy notes with each other, and it's been fun going through the whole education program together as well.

After the Convocation we took pictures (duh! of course) and then Mom, Dad, Camden, Brenner, Ammon's parents, Ammon and myself went to Tucanos to celebrate (because there is no better way to celebrate graduation than with massive amounts of meat).

It was fun to spend some time together. Then my parents stole my car so that they could get back home (their car broke down on the way up to Orem, and they barely made it... they had to catch a lift with someone and get dropped off at the school).

It was a truly great day!!! :)

(Minus the car breaking down...)

(also, I just noticed while I was downloading all of our pictures onto my computer that the ones that we got with our families aren't there... I don't know if they got deleted or what! So mom, if you're reading this will you please email me those pictures? Thanks!)

And it grew....

Well..

In the past 2 weeks the little bugger sure has grown.

A lot!

I seriously think that I went to bed one night 'normal sized' and woke up with a big gut. It was both amazing and quite shocking!

Also, for the first time random strangers on the street have actually commented on me being pregnant... I'm sure I'll be sick of it by the time July rolls around, but for right now I'm just happy that I look more pregnant than fat. :)

So... here I am at 26 weeks!! (Well.... technically I'll be 26 TOMORROW.. but I'm gonna bet I don't grow too much in the next 3 hours until Thursday rolls around!)

P1010304

Well... there we go! Me and my belly!

Only 14 more weeks to go. Woo! :)

.... We really need to find a name for this baby....

Class Baby Shower! :)

My cute little 4th grade class that I did my student teaching in surprised me with a baby shower on my last day!!

It was so so cute, and I was totally surprised! So many of them brought gifts, or donated money to help with a class gift. It was so sweet...

.. And I totally cried!

I got everything from adorable pink baby clothes, to a "Teach Me How to Jimmer" shirt, a National Guard coin, baby blankets, baby wipes, and hand-made origami for a baby mobile!

It was so so cute!

Since I totally wasn't expecting it, I didn't have my camera ready.. so I had someone take pictures on my phone!

So... please don't judge me for some of my random faces in these pics!!

They're candids... ;)

photo (2)
.... It's probably illegal to have pics of my students on here, so just pretend like you don't see their faces. I don't know how to blur them out.

photo (4)
A cute little pink outfit that one of my students got me! This baby is definitely spoiled... and will definitely be rocking the pink! ;)

And... the rest of my pics have LOTS of students in them, so I won't post them.

but it was so so so sweet that they threw me the shower, and they were SO excited to do it!!! When I started opening gifts they even broke out into a very enthusiastic rendition of "Happy Baby Day to You" (You know the song, right? I'm pretty sure it's a classic. ;) It's the one in the tune of "Happy Birthday"... hahaha!! They're so funny)

I've seriously been like 4 days without being in class and I miss them terribly... I want to go back and just keep teaching, or at least hanging out with them!

.....

In other baby news! I am 23 and a half weeks!! That leaves me with like 16 and a half weeks til the little lady gets here.

Holy dang!

Hopefully now that I'm done with student teaching and all of that fun junk I'll have more time to start preparing for her...

Also, today I realized that I hadn't taken a belly picture in a while, and since Ammon wasn't here I decided to take one myself. On my phone. Mostly cuz I had my phone with me, and I was too lazy to go find the camera.

So.. You can see me in all of my pregnant, camera phone, mirror pic glory!
photo (5)
(don't mind the pissed look on my face... every time I tried to take one smiling I just looked like a homicidal maniac. Definitely not the look I was going for...)

So as far as the belly goes... I sorta feel like I mostly just look like I've been eating too many cookies rather than being pregnant. So, I'm mostly just fat! haha!

Oh well... Just one more joy of pregnancy!

I'll try to get a better picture when Ammon gets home.. with the real camera... and preferably without a homicidal maniac look on my face (no promises on that one though).

SURPRISE!!!

Well, sometimes surprises happen in life.

And sometimes those surprises happen in the form of a baby.... And you realize that holy crap, you are not anywhere near prepared in any way, shape, or form to take care of a small human.

But then.... even with all of the throwing up, exhaustion, and fear it's all so much fun and worth it when those little flutters happen! (although I could do without the expanding waistline... yikes!)

P1010300
(don't mind my awesome appearance... it was a long day of emotions...)

So, one night I couldn't sleep because I couldn't shake the feeling that I was pregnant... Even though I KNEW there was no way that I could be... A baby was definitely not in 'the plan'. So, that morning I found an old pregnancy test (I think it may have even been from a gag gift wedding present), and took it.

Then refused to look at it.

Finally I glanced at the test and could barely make out a second line. It was so faint I almost thought I was making it up. But, tears immediately came, and I immediately had to wake Ammon up to come look at the test.

Of course Ammon took one look at it and just said "I think it's only a positive if the second line is as dark as the first one"... and immediately went back to sleep.

Ha!

But after a few more tests there was no denying it.... Baby Cunningham was on his/her way!

67493_790062461509_17809301_41602390_2145593_n
(Ammon thought it would be funny to take a picture of his "cute little pregnant wife" while we were at the pumpkin patch using the pumpkins as the stomach.... surprise surprise! I really was his "cute little pregnant wife" when we took this...)

Then, at 10 weeks we finally told our families at Christmas!! Woo-hoo! This baby will be the 3rd grandchild on the Cunningham side, and first on my side! :)

Then yesterday we had THE ultrasound. You know, the one where the super important stuff is discussed. ;)
